Chateau Le Brevedent reviews

We visited in August as a stop over to the Vendee. The site is set in the grounds of a stunning Louis XVI hunting lodge, this site is the polar opposite of a commercial resort. It’s a "shabby-chic" paradise that prioritizes nature, music, and old-fashioned play. It mostly nature led play, however our kids were never bored. Our daughter (6) was obsessed with the free-roaming chickens and feeding the rabbits, while our 9-year-old loved the circus workshops (trapeze and juggling) and building dams in the shallow forest stream. There is a massive, century-old tree with low-hanging branches that acts as a natural climbing frame—it kept both kids entertained for hours every single day. Every Friday night, there are acoustic concerts where the owners invite campers to grab an instrument and join in. It’s incredibly laid-back and atmospheric, sitting by the lake with the lit-up château as a backdrop. Canoeing and fishing on the lake are free. It was the perfect spot for our 9-year-old to try fishing for the first time while we relaxed on the bank.

Eco-Friendly Showers, as the site is very eco-conscious. The shower buttons only stay on for a few seconds at a time to save water—it’s for a good cause, but can be a bit of a juggle when washing a 6-year-old’s hair! Rural Location so you definitely need a car. There are no towns within easy walking distance, so you’ll be driving for your main supplies and sightseeing. Wifi is mostly limited to the café/bar area. Great for a digital detox, but worth noting if you need to work or stream.

An absolute gem for families who want to escape the "kids' club" madness. It’s a place for climbing trees, making music, and enjoying the Normandy countryside. Cerza Safari Lodge/Zoo (10 mins drive) is a fantastic zoo. You can take a safari train through the paddocks—our kids loved seeing the rhinos and giraffes up close. Honfleur is an incredibly pretty harbor town. We spent an afternoon wandering the cobbled streets and visiting the Naturospace (butterfly house). Deauville & Trouville have lovely sandy beaches and a classic wooden promenade. Pont-l'Évêque town is famous for its cheese! Visit the lake here for inflatable water parks or explore the half-timbered town center for amazing local cider. Overall Chateau Le Brevedent campsite is quiet and rural, lovely setting and enough fun options to keep the kids off their devices.

We stayed here on a two-night stopover on the way back from the Vendee. It is a very picturesque site, quiet tightly packed but we had a pitch next to the lake which was very pretty and so gave us a lovely outlook. There isn't much to do here for teens - only the pool and I think if we'd stayed any longer our teens would have been bored. The surrounding Normandy countryside is very pretty with some beautiful architecture and we rode our bikes into a neighbouring village and stopped for a beer at a local bar.
Castel sites are of a certain standard and we were not disappointed.
