Château de I'Epervière reviews

I'Epervière, Gigny-sur-Saône, Burgundy, France

The Kent Family | August 2025

We visited as a family of four in August. This 5-star site is set in the grounds of a 16th-century château and feels incredibly sophisticated. It is the perfect spot for families who want a relaxing "French lifestyle" holiday with plenty of space and top-quality food. Most campsite food is average, but the restaurant here is genuinely excellent. We highly recommend the Boeuf Bourguignon! There’s also a cozy bar in the old vaulted stables for a quiet evening drink. The kids loved the playground and the bouncy castle. There is also a small pond on-site where our 9-year-old could try his hand at fishing without needing a permit.

This is not a "high-energy" site like those in the south. If your kids want huge water slides and loud nightly discos, they might find it a bit too calm. WiFi is mostly restricted to the bar and reception area. It’s great for a "digital detox," but worth knowing if you need to plan your trips on the go.

There are plenty of places to visit nearby. Tournus is a beautiful riverside town with a famous abbey. We went for the weekly market—the kids loved picking out local cheeses and giant meringues. Chalon-sur-Saône is a larger town with a great Photography Museum (Musée Niépce) and lovely pedestrian streets for shopping. La Voie Bleue is a flat, paved cycle path that runs along the river. We rented bikes nearby; it’s perfect for a 6-year-old as there are no cars to worry about.

The entrance to this site is stunning, and the pitches are some of the largest we’ve seen—flat, grassy, and often separated by hedges. It feels like camping in a private park. There is a lovely heated outdoor pool and a smaller indoor pool. Our 6-year-old daughter loved the indoor option on cooler mornings, while our 9-year-old enjoyed the open-air pool once the sun was up. Overall a nice campsite that we gave a 3.5 out of 5 for based on the well kept grounds, warm pool option and friendly staff.

A refined, peaceful, and truly beautiful campsite. It’s the ideal choice for families who enjoy good food, cycling, and exploring traditional French villages. Château de Cormatinis a 30 minte drive and has a magnificent castle with incredible gardens and a boxwood maze that kept both kids entertained for an hour.

The Linkman Family | August 2016

A lovely campsite close to plenty of amenities and sighseeing in the local area. Our static caravan was imaculate and like home from home. The air con was a must in the extreme heatwave. Couldn't fault the staff on parc, they went out of the way to make our stay pleasant and even brought a first aid kit around when my daughter hurt her knee from playing tick. The kids loved the play park and the pool which had a climbing water frame. The restaurant is out of this world! Don't have any complaints other than our stay was too short. A week isn't long enough.

The Roberts Family | July 2008

Had a great holiday, it's a relatively quiet and relaxed site compared to some of the others we have been to in France. Kids loved the pools (although the outdoor one is a bit cold in the morning). Spent a lot of time cycling around the area (you can hire bikes from the park) and having picnics by the lake (watch out for the hungry ducks!). The park has a shop which was good for basics, but you may want to head to the ATAC supermarket (about 10 minutes in a car) if you want more choice.

We would recommend this holiday park to families who want a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
